ACSM GEI Webinar Information and Outline

Prepare for the ACSM GEI Exam at your own pace! To meet candidates' busy lifestyle, ACSM offers convenient webinars that allow candidates to prepare for their certification exam at home. Single sessions are available but if you register for the 6-week series and miss a class, no worries - audio and PowerPoint presentations are available following each webinar for 6 months.

Webinar sessions are 90 minutes.

Each individual webinar session is worth 1.5 ACSM CECs and cost is $45 per session.

The entire 6-session series is worth 9.0 ACSM CECs and cost is $240 for all six sessions.

Group Exercise Principles and Procedures

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of group exercise instruction (GEI)

  • Effectively organize and market group exercise programs to targeted populations

  • Effectively identify key components to a group exercise class

  • Identify and utilize a variety of exercise modalities common to a group setting

  • Understand how to develop an effective emergency response plan


Principles of Fitness and Group Exercise Programming

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand principles of fitness training including progression, overload, specificity and per iodization

  • Apply principles of fitness to cardiovascular, resistance, flexibility and functional exercise programming

  • Create exercise programs to achieve specific goals commonly requested in a group exercise setting such as weight loss and strength gain


Basic Exercise Science & Kinesiology

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand introductory principles related to the cardiovascular, muscular, skeletal, endocrine, and nervous systems, including acute & chronic responses of each to a bout of exercise

  • Understand basic kinesiology terminology and application to exercises commonly used in group settings

  • Understand basic biomechanical principles, key to designing creative exercises safely and effectively for a desired outcome


Health Screening, Risk Factors, & ACSM Risk Stratification

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Design and administer an appropriate screening and health assessment for participants

  • Understand and identify major cardiovascular disease risk factors, as identified by the ACSM, as well as their impact on exercise performance

  • Perform an appropriate risk stratification for participants based on health history & risk factor profile

  • Appropriately screen participants for program eligibility, prior to participation in an exercise program and identify those at potential risk for complications


Exercise Safety & Managing Diverse Populations

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the GEI

  • Understand concepts of adherence and behavior change

  • Become familiar with class modification strategies

  • Become familiar with conflict management skills

  • Understand legal responsibilities and considerations for the GEI


Specialty Group Exercise Programming & Practical Applications

Upon completing this session, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the effect of exercise on common disease processes

  • Familiarization with programming for special populations including

  • Select chronic disease

  • Seniors

  • Children

  • Pregnant participants

  • Athletes 

Note to candidates:

  • Workshop and webinar costs do not include the cost of the exam or study materials.

  • Workshops and webinars are intended for entry to intermediate level participants.

  • Post workshop/webinar study will be required for achieving ACSM certification.

  • Workshop and webinar attendees can earn ACSM CECs for attending; however, these CECs can only be used for existing certifications.
